The Crossfit Battlefront On-Ramp is your initiation to this new and exciting workout experience. During On-Ramp you will be introduced to your instructor, Wendy.
Wendy will begin with a quick familiarization of the program; theory, movements, equipment and jargon (words and phrases peculiar to Crossfit like WOD or AMRAP. After this 2 hour class you will have enough understanding of your new fitness regime to move into the normal classes with confidence.
If you have prior experience with Crossfit at another box or gym, feel free to discuss this PRIOR to signing up for an On-Ramp as Wendy can help you skip ahead with a simple movement test. Otherwise, everyone new to Crossfit will be required to attend an On-Ramp.
- CrossFit Classes
The founder, Coach Glassman had an idea for a program. One that would develop a well-balanced all-around athlete, ready to tackle everything an active lifestyle could throw at them. Crossfit was that idea.
The idea was a program centered around the idea of "Constantly varied, high-intensity, functional movements" combined into daily workouts that would make athletes stronger, faster and fitter without sacrificing any one of these, to excel in another.
To understand this better we can break it down:
CONSTANTLY VARIED — Always changing the workouts, never letting your body adapt. This is why CrossFit is great for getting results. Your body never gets used to anything so you never reach those plateaus.
HIGH INTENSITY —Intensity is the act of creating power (power = force multiplied by distance divided by time). In basic language, power/intensity is how much weight you can move over the longest distance in the shortest amount of time. The goal is to help people run farther, faster and to move more weight safely, while maintaining proper form and technique. This is known as virtuosity of movement and helps avoid injury.
FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENTS — movements humans were built for. Movements that are natural and safe. Movements we use in everyday life such as squatting (lowering yourself to the floor), deadlifting (picking things up), pull ups (climbing over things), etc. These are movements that promote neurological and hormonal responses, leading to better health, more useful strength, greater core stability, agility, and flexibility.
