Trick-or-treaters on Fort Campbell will be under the watchful eyes of military police and additional Soldier volunteers to ensure a safe Halloween.

The partnership between the installation law enforcement and Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers, nicknamed “Operation Friendly Ghost,” is a team effort to monitor the post streets as little princesses and super heroes rap on doors requesting sweet treats.

Authorized Halloween trick-or-treat hours on post are from 6 until 8 p.m. Children under the age of 10 are required to be accompanied by an adult or a baby sitter over the age of 13.

Fort Campbell’s installation safety office recommends children wear costumes that are easily seen in the dark and flame retardant. Costumes with masks can impair vision. Face make-up may be a preferred option. Parents are strongly encouraged to have children carry a flashlight or a chemical-light.

Residents not participating in trick-or-treating should indicate so by turning their porch lights off.
